Dreameater

A formless creature that only ever appears in someone's dreams. It can seemingly enter the dream of anyone, no matter how far away they are. Targets people that are alone and enjoys tormenting its prey until they eventually die to exhaustion. Once it has chosen its target, it will keep visiting it until either it or the victim dies.

Strategy

Against a single enemy, the dreameater will do a normal round of combat then do the Nightmare cage on the following round. Immediately following that with Dream Ender on the turn after.

Against a group of enemies, it will do the same thing if it wins initiative. Otherwise, it will immediately cast Nightmare Cage on the target that it was targeting while alone. Once the cage is broken, it has little else going for it and can only do basic attacks.

Should it kill a target with Dream Ender, it will keep repeating the Nightmare Cage into Dream Ender loop until all enemies are defeated.

Running this monster

The dreameater will initially target a single player, preferably one who goes to bed early or who is separate from the rest of the party. They will wake up fighting an enemy they likely cannot defeat by themselves. Any HP or Mana they spent during this is not actually used. Afterwards, they will wake up normally and feel like they had a bad dream.

The dreameater will keep targeting the same player every night if no actions are taken.

The players must go to sleep near each other and at the same time in order to all fight it. Once they do, the dream eater will most likely be an easy kill.

If your party has less than 4 players, be sure to adjust the HP on the cage accordingly.
