Lineage overview
The Unseelie are a feared and infamous branch of the Fae, marked by their dark complexions, dagger-thin features, and eyes that shimmer like oil in moonlight. The Unseelie dwell in eternal gloom, deep in the heart of the Eastern Forests where sunlight never reaches, and where even other Fae dare not tread.
Unseelie society is one of discipline, cruelty, and control. Though they rarely harm each other, their reputation for depravity is well-earned. They take great pride in the art of suffering, perfecting pain as both punishment and expression. Captives brought into the dark woods are not killed quickly, if at all. They are kept, their torment prolonged by methods that are as surgical as they are sadistic. To the Unseelie, mercy is wasteful, and empathy is an affliction to be corrected.
Despite this darkness, or perhaps because of it, Unseelie adventurers are not rare. They often leave the forest not out of exile, but ambition. In the wider world, their talents for interrogation, infiltration, and assassination find both fear and value. While some become little more than thugs or enforcers, others integrate into adventuring parties, happy to do the "dirty work" others shy from.
Unseelie adventurers gravitate toward melee combat, preferring to witness an enemy’s suffering from up close, though many also learn some form of healing. They typically excel at sabotage, torture, and covert operations. Unseelie also generally have no moral restrictions and will use whatever tactic ensures victory.
While some Unseelie may suppress their darker instincts, most do not apologize for what they are. Those who travel with an Unseelie should always keep that in mind, lest they find themselves with a dagger in the back.
“Death is not punishment. It is a mercy.”
