While a majority of Selkies cherish their seaside abodes, a notable number venture beyond the coast, establishing homes near rivers or lakes to remain close to their beloved water sources. This preference for aquatic environments underscores their deep connection to water, allowing them to seamlessly integrate into various aquatic communities and adapt to both marine and freshwater realms. Central to Selkie identity is the magic seal cloak, a precious item bestowed upon them at birth, much like the Tengu. This cloak grants Selkies the ability to transform into their elusive Seal Form, a transformation shrouded in mystery as it remains unclear whether the seal form or their humanoid appearance came first. In their Seal Form, Selkies exhibit extraordinary speed and agility underwater, making them nearly impossible to capture and allowing them to navigate the depths with unparalleled grace.

A defining cultural aspect of the Selkies is the profound significance of their seal cloaks. According to longstanding oral traditions, if a person were to steal a Selkie's cloak, the Selkie is culturally obligated to marry them. Although this obligation is not enforced by law, many Selkies take this tradition seriously, fiercely protecting their sealskin cloaks from theft—with many learning magic methods at an early age to summon and protect this cloak.  Additionally, Selkies possess the innate ability to infuse water with their own mana, enabling them to manipulate it for various magical applications, which makes them exceptional Hydromancers and Cryomancers.
