Identity & lore
Lineage overview
Pigfolk are a sub-race of Chimera and can be found in all corners of Northi. They are a hardy people that can thrive in any environment, although this nature has brought them to be intermingled amongst the other races of Lyr and thus lack a distinct “homeland” of their own. They don’t lack a sense of community but are more apt at forming that community with everyone around them rather than focusing on any fellow pigfolk.
They are mostly known for their mercantile acumen and while not all pigfolk are merchants and own stores, many either do or have family that does. While plenty of negative stereotypes exist, most pigfolk pride themselves on being fair and honest merchants. This is…soured, historically, as pigfolk were known to be at the forefront of the slave trade in Northi before its abolition. Some even believe they never stopped, simply changed the image or went underground with it and it’s difficult to push that aside as conspiracy when places like Sabbleton makes no attempt to disguise their ongoing slave trade and Clafoutis is rumored to be a “discrete” city to indulge in any vices.
Pigfolk adventurers are rare and often motivated by family pressure to expand a business or to find an escape from the family business. Having a pigfolk along is a surefire way to have someone shrewd in the way of business, bartering, and haggling. A pigfolk companion is no more likely to cheat or swindle you than anyone else…but you can probably look forward to some discounts at the local shops on your adventures.
And the rumors that they can eat just about anything are often discovered to be…unfortunately true.
