Identity & lore
Lineage overview
Dogfolk are renowned for their unwavering culture of loyalty and honor, embodying the virtues that make them esteemed allies and steadfast companions within the realm of Lyr. Their deep-seated sense of duty often leads them to trust and support those to whom they have sworn allegiance, even in the face of betrayal. This inherent trustworthiness has, unfortunately, made Dogfolk susceptible to exploitation throughout history. Prior to the reign of King Leo of Northi, the fragmented kingdoms and city-states of the Catfolk frequently abused the Dogfolk’s loyalty, coercing them into servitude and neglecting their rightful honor. King Leo's ascension marked a pivotal shift, as he championed the protection of Dogfolk rights and endeavored to eradicate the oppressive practices that had long plagued them. While Queen Renia has largely upheld King Leo’s reforms, some remnants of the old abuses linger, maintaining a delicate balance of power and respect.
Due to their intense culture of loyalty and honor, Dogfolk are celebrated as the finest bodyguards in all of Lyr, their dedication making them virtually impervious to bribery or betrayal. This steadfastness ensures that they remain reliable protectors, whether guarding noble estates or adventuring parties traversing treacherous landscapes. Those Dogfolk who do commit betrayal, are properly dealt with by their own—bearing the mark of a torn or cropped ears. Players who choose to embody a Dogfolk character can expect to play roles that emphasize loyalty, protection, and honor, making them ideal for those who wish to portray loyal retainers or powerful guardians.
