Identity & lore
Lineage overview
Bearfolk are a proud and enduring branch of the Chimera, towering humanoids with dense fur, heavy frames, and deep, resonant voices. Most stand a head taller than the average human and carry the strength to match it, yet behind their massive build lies a quiet and thoughtful nature. Bearfolk are often the last to speak up and do so in short sentences, not speaking any more words than are necessary.
Their culture prizes food, patience, community, and comfort. To a bearfolk, food shared is a sacred bond. Most live in small family holds scattered through the colder reaches of Northi. Their settlements, half-buried in snow and stone, are renowned for their hospitality.
Despite their imposing nature, bearfolk often display surprising cunning. They are famous, perhaps infamous, for their uncanny ability to blend into society. Through sheer confidence or a kind of cosmic absurdity, a bearfolk in a robe and hat can convince entire villages that they are “definitely not a bear.” Scholars call this phenomenon Bear Shock, and no one has yet figured out how or why it works.
Bearfolk have an uncomplicated and big love for food. To them, a good meal is one of life’s purest pleasures and a sign of prosperity hard-earned through long winters and heavy labor. They’ll eat nearly anything that fills the belly, but they have an undeniable fondness for sweets: honey, candied fruits, and rare confections that melt on the tongue. Many bearfolk adventurers quietly hoard local delicacies from the regions they visit, trading stories and bites of food with the same enthusiasm others reserve for treasure.
Bearfolk adventurers are often wanderers who leave their homes to test their might or seek rare foods from distant lands. Some serve as guardians and caravan escorts, others simply follow their instincts wherever they lead. Their role in parties is usually that of a frontliner, delivering heavy blows with their paws.
“Full belly, calm heart.”
