Lineage overview
Mothfolk are a rarely seen subspecies of Chimera marked by their gossamer wings, feathery antennae, and luminous red eyes with black sclera.
Unlike most Chimera, Mothfolk live startlingly brief lives. They mature within a few years and rarely live past forty. As a result, their society is built not on permanence, but on beauty, memory, and motion. Each generation considers itself a brief candle that is meant to burn brightly, not last forever. While they are generally gentle and introspective, their views on mortality make them eerily calm or even reckless in the face of death.
Mothfolk are nomadic, traveling in small groups as they follow seasonal shifts, changes in ambient magic or other signs. They rarely construct permanent dwellings, preferring temporary silk-covered domes or high-hanging cocoons spun between old trees or ruin pillars.
Despite their gentle demeanor, Mothfolk face distinct challenges. Their alien appearance, especially the more bestial Zoalith mothfolk, evokes unease in most people. There are many negative rumors and myths surrounding the mothfolk and thus the elusive mothfolk avoid interacting with others unless absolutely necessary.
Mothfolk adventurers often embrace the path of a frontliner or scout. Their short lives push them to live boldly, though not always recklessly. They approach danger like a moth approaches flame: fully aware of the risk, but compelled nonetheless. Those who party with a mothfolk should restrain their impulses, or they might find themselves caught in the same inferno.
“Better to burn with brilliance for a moment, than fade forgotten in stillness.”
